French as a Second Language

Grades 4 to 8: 200 minutes per week

Special Needs Children

Classroom teachers develop program accommodations and modifications through Individual Education Plans to meet the needs of all identified students within their regular classrooms. Children who require resource assistance are integrated within their regular classrooms. The Classroom Resource Teacher (CRT) works directly with the child in the classroom or assists the child's teacher in adapting program requirements.

Literacy Focus

School staff are continuing to implement the Comprehensive Balanced Literacy Framework to further develop the reading and writing skills of our students.

Computer Technology

Computers are available in every classroom and computer technology is integrated into student programs. Students and staff also have access to two mobile lab labs and SMART boards.

Co-Curricular Program

Our Lady of Fatima School encourages students to participate actively in the life of our school beyond the classroom. Co-curricular activities include:

Assessing Student Progress

Levels of achievement are monitored carefully, assessed regularly and reported formally each term to parents.  Assessment which is on-going includes: diagnostic, formative and summative strategies.

School staff gather regularly to discuss student achievement levels and review assessment data . This information is used to identify students needing extra support and plan next steps for providing the necessary support.

Provincially

In the spring of each school year, provincial tests in Mathematics, Reading and Writing are administered to all Grade 3 and Grade 6 students. Results from these tests are utilized to improve programs and promote higher student achievement through locally developed school plans.

Plans for the Future

Staff strive to promote continuous growth and improvement in learning through participation in ongoing teacher inservice sessions held at the School and Board level.  At Our Lady of Fatima School ongoing professional learning and the formulation of our School Improvement Plan are two key elements used to improve student achievement.

Our School Improvement Plan focuses upon the following components:

  1. Catholic Faith Formation (Catholic Graduate Expectations)
  2. Literacy (reading, writing and oral communicatio)
  3. Numeracy (mathematics and technology)
  4. Pathways Programming (for example: student transitions, career education)
